Why importing?
Working in schools, we became very frustrated with the cost of products available in New Zealand. We knew that products like Data Projectors were retailing at up to 600% markup. It took some time to find reputable wholesale companies but we did it and are now offering these savings to you.
Our products
There is a compromise with this system. Because we leave ordering open for a week, then import the goods, your order may take up to 2 weeks to arrive. Our experience so far has seen products delivered within 4 - 7 days.
Quality of products:
We consider our products to be mid range and suitable for school use.
So if you don't mind the timeframe but appreciate saving lots of money then this system is for you.
Freight
When you order our products we include a freight charge of $20.00. This price is the same whether you purchase one item or twenty.
If there is a product that you are looking for in particular, chances are we will be able to find it for you.

We don't deal in software at this stage, but any ict related hardware is our speciality.

We advertise a small number of products weekly. We do this to reduce our importing costs and maximise our discounts from our overseas wholesalers.

Professional development is an integral part of modern teaching. Effective professional development comes from regular learning based on specific teacher needs and goals. More importantly PD needs to be directed at the classroom and student achievement.

Edconnect develops a PD program with your school to cater for your schoolwide development and individual teacher needs. Our online PD system ensures that teachers have regular professional readings with assignments that relate to classroom practice. Our system has automated reporting to provide measurable PD data.

When users login they are presented with a personal dashboard informing them of training they have yet to complete, training they have completed, group messages and emails.
When you click on a course you are presented with the course modules. Usually modules must be completed in order. They may consist of PowerPoints, videos, audio, flash files and assessments.
A record of what you have completed is available including assessment scores. Other documents such as help files and notes may be available also that are not tracked.
Assessments relate to the previous modules and can consist of multiple choice, keyword or free text / essay type questions.
Instructors are informed if a student fails an assessment more than 3 times and will email or skype to assist.
This is open book learning with the aim of achieving 100% pass marks from our students.
This is a blank example of a collaborative goal sheet between Edconnect and the individual teacher. It is an online document that both parties work on to achieve the teachers goal.
We use the latest version of Skype to communicate with our students. We book individual skype meetings with teachers to discuss their goals and run staff workshops via this medium.
As well as video conferencing our facilitators can share their computer screen with you just as if we were there in your staffroom. If there is something you'd like to share we can hand control of screen sharing over to you.
School administrators will receive reports on their teams progress at the completion of the course. This information is only available to Edconnect and is strictly confidential. Think of the advantages to having a measurable PD system in your school for individual teachers and collectively as a staff .
Need a school website or you're not sure about managing an LMS? We use a variety of open source and free web 2.0 products and tie them together to give you a stylish and feature rich environment.
Wix: We use Wix.com for the frontend of your site and point it to your school domain. Wix is a Flash web design product that makes your site look professional and modern.
Are you using an LMS or are you considering using one? We can manage it for you if you don't have the time or personnel to do so.

Heath Sawyer was a New Zealand teacher for 15 years and Primary School Principal for 8 years. Heath has worked as an ICT facilitator for a cluster of schools and for TKI as the ICT community facilitator.
Heath has also written software to support the numeracy project and is now focusing on web design and web 2.0 applications that support the NZ curriculum.
